SQUIRRELS
ALUMNI TO REUNITE JUNE 19th '04
FOR
20TH ANNIVERSARY GIG!!!
Look out, Seattle! Because on Saturday
June 19th (2004), STUDIO SEVEN
will feature a very special evening of entertainment & festivities
commemorating 20 Years of Seattle's longest running & most beloved
(well, by some at least)
pop
parodists & musical merry makers, THE SQUIRRELS GROUP.
Founded in 1984 by ex-Pudz
vocalist/Poplust Magazine publisher Rob "Capt."
Morgan, this comedy-music-workshop of sorts has built quite a reputation
for itself over the years by putting on a highly entertaining live show
that has to be seen to be believed. Since it's inception, Capt. Morgan
has been fortunate enough to be joined in these pursuits by many of the
area's craftiest players (including members of the Young Fresh Fellows,
The Posies, Temper & The Tantrums, The Frazz, The Fastbacks & Prudence
Dredge, to name just a few), all gleefully sailing through some of the
most mind-bending & hilarious attacks on the hits & misses of the
'60s & '70s ever presented on a Seattle stage (with the occasional
original tune thrown in here & there for good measure). Both strangely
beautiful & somewhat frightening, a good Squirrels show will leave
you convinced that there really ISN'T that big of a gap between Frank Zappa
& Shaun Cassidy, that listening to three totally unrelated songs at
the same time is a GOOD thing, & that all Cabbage Patch Dolls MUST
DIE. IMMEDIATELY. Like I said before, you kinda gotta see it for yourself
to fully understand (lol).
ANYHOO, back to the 19th. To celebrate the momentous occasion of 20 years of such tomfoolery, many of these handsome & still young ex-members will be Squirreling up the joint once again, including appearances by longtime guitarists Joey Kline & Jimmy "J.T." Thomas, fellow Squirrely axemen Aaron "New New Guy" Taylor, Chuck Carroll & Jim Sangster, keyboardists Tom Morrison, Mark Nichols & Bruce Laven, drummers James Cookman, Hollis The Bug, Tad Hutchison, Mike Musburger & Gimpy "Dave" LaRue, bassists Matt "Not-So-New Guy" Fox, Kevin Crosby, & Craig "Mamoo" Ferguson, and a special appearance by guest vocalist Roy A. Loney of Flamin' Groovies fame! Oh, & a special 20th Anniversary Edition of "The Baby Cheevers Show", of course. I mean, is this gonna rock or WHAT?
"This show will be very special to us on many levels" says Morgan. "Not only will the old school fans have a chance to relive yuks from days gone by, newer fans will likewise have the chance to witness songs from our past that we haven't done onstage in years, performed by the many of the same people that first played 'em back in the day". Not to say that this is purely a nostalgia show. This is a band with it's sights clearly set on the future, as the gig marks the first outing for a newly revised Live Unit, aka 'The Squirrels: The Next Generation'. "We're really looking forward to this" says Morgan. "We've been hard at work down in the lab for the past couple of months bustin' in the new crew, & it's sounding GREAT. We trust you will all welcome Aaron "A.T." Taylor (of Bill/Survey Cez/Radio Nationals fame) into the fold with open arms, as well as take this opportunity to help us show our appreciation to Jimmy for years of service above & beyond the call of doody before he hangs up the ol' Shi**y Squirrel-O-Caster once & for all. We even have a few new tricks up our sleeve that we're SURE you will all enjoy! Or not. One way or the other, this show is gonna be a BLAST." Trust me on this one: this new line-up ROCKS!
So, there ya go. A big, glorious cluster f*ck of Super Boss Hyper Wackiness (sigh). At least, that's the roster as of TODAY... lord KNOWS who'll actually show up in the end- the list continues to morph almost daily. And if you could be so kind, please do us a favor & forward this to all of your music lovin' friends- 'cuz believe me, they DON'T want to miss this one. Well, maybe they DO, but if so, they're just WRONG (lol). LET'S ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
